About Orlebar Brown.

Launched in 2007 by photographer Mr Adam Brown and acquired by Chanel in 2018, Orlebar Brown focuses on sophisticated swimwear and casual apparel, apt for the beach and beyond. Every Orlebar Brown product is developed with a better holiday in mind - they are a global brand with more than 40 direct stores, and over 250 additional locations in great cities and gorgeous resorts around the world.

The backstory.

Orlebar Brown have carefully crafted their brand to reflect their premium products. They are pioneers of poolside style, and they needed a premium music supplier that could ride their wave.

Each store is a curated space that reflects the sophistication and glamour their brand stands for.

They came to us looking for a soundtrack that would help them form a deeper connection with customers.

We understand that consumers seek brands that mirror their ideal selves - this is definitely the case with Orlebar Brown. We prioritise authenticity and relevance, ensuring that our clients’ brands resonate with consumers on a profound level.

The Startle solution.

We love working with brands that have a holistic approach - they understand that all touch points are important when building customer perception.

We kicked things off with a brand discovery and profiling session with our music curation team, establishing their objectives and a clear music brief. This allowed us to really understand the type of environment they were looking to create in their stores - we created a personalised music blueprint for Orlebar Brown to listen to samples of what tunes we think would fit well for them.

...all touch points are important when building customer perception.

The sound.

The music strategy for Orlebar Brown is built around themes of escapism and summer, complementing the brand's aesthetic, store decor, and overall identity. Our aim was to create a musical atmosphere that captures the essence of a sophisticated beach club, featuring curated playlists that feel like a DJ spinning hidden gems - songs you don't hear often but are instantly captivating.

This music profile was designed to create an engaging environment that resonates with customers, allowing them to immerse themselves in the experience. From the moment they enter to the moment they leave, we sought to evoke that beach-ready feeling through the music. We achieved this by blending lesser-known dance tracks with global influences, enriched with spacious and soulful textures, setting the ideal tone for Orlebar Brown's unique brand experience.

We now work with Orlebar Brown to ensure their music solution is just as crafted and premium as their spaces. Their stores’ soundtracks align perfectly with the rest of the environment, and allow customers to really feel immersed in the brand.

They’re singing our praises about the music in their stores (which is great, because we love feedback).

We’re so excited to continue working with them and help bring more branded experiences to life across their stores.

At Orlebar Brown, we set out to refresh and harmonise our in-store music offering. We wanted to work in partnership with the new provider, rather than selecting from pre-created playlists or generic in-store music. Startle have worked closely with our teams to craft the perfect set of musical principles that have formed the basis of the sound you will hear in our stores. Their team of curators developed our brief and played their ideas back to us for alignment – taking the time to fully understand the brief – as well as suggesting ways they could help make the playlists even better. The result has been fantastic – loved by team members (thanks to the variety), enjoyed by customers – and perfectly fitting into our store experience.
