Is daytime clubbing the new night out?

Why has the trend captured so much attention? Let's take a look.

Daytime clubbing is taking the dance floor by a storm. Actress Vicky McClure MBE and her husband Jonny Owen have been leading the trend with their sold-out Day Fever event across the UK.

Over the past year, online searches for daytime clubbing events have dramatically increased by 800 percent. Daytime clubbing is the perfect fundraising event, the new night out for the rave generation and the ideal way to let loose for over 30’s.

Daytime clubbing is creating a space for those looking to enjoy music and let go without having a pressing impact on their sleep cycles and day-to-day responsibilities.

So, why has the daytime music event caught many people’s attention?

Clubs continue to be on the decline

Nighttime Industries Association’s latest report shows a continuous decline in the number of people attending night clubs in the UK. With one in five-night clubs closing in the UK for the past three years, venue owners may be looking to diversify their offering and appeal to a broader audience.

Some club owners reference the cost-of-living crisis for the lack of footfall into nightclubs,  but opening up the doors earlier can draw in diverse crowds, looking to enjoy an afternoon out.

Over 30’s priority shift

Individuals in this age bracket are experiencing a lifestyle shift, where health and wellbeing begins to take priority. Plans of a mortgage, children and responsibilities such as pets are also on the cards, making folk think twice whether a 10 pm start for a night out is feasible.

This audience typically begins to feel disconnected with the often-played genres in clubs too. This comes as no surprise, as research suggests that house music is the most played genre in nightclubs, whereas research has found that the most popular genres of music across all ages are pop (57%) and Rock (40%).

With over 30’s unable to easily find nights out with music they truly enjoy, the alternative has been a house gathering with friends or a night in, so their weekend doesn’t feel wasted.

With more versatile daytime clubbing on the rise, over 30s can enjoy a day out dancing to a broader variety of music and still get home at a reasonable hour.

Unique charity events with a purpose

In 2023, 60% of the public in the UK have found it more difficult to give to charity. With non-profit organisations looking ahead to navigate the cost-of-living crisis in 2024, fundraising is looking to take a more creative approach.

A daytime event has been organised for Children’s Hospice Southwest, one of the first events this year to try this fundraising tactic that ties a good cause with a great time.

Some non-profit organisations such as Age UK in Wolverhampton are utilising daytime clubbing a slightly different way. The charity is setting up daytime discos to unite the elderly, helping them fight loneliness and elevate their quality of life.

Rave generation hitting their 50’s and the dance floor

If an all night long party is not enticing anymore, the all-day long events are here to satisfy the rave generations craving for music events. With this generation getting to their 50s, chances are their kids have grown up and they have more free time available.  Daytime clubbing events give older generations the perfect opportunity to connect with people their own age and relive their youth.

The Day Fever event has proved once again, that there is space for daytime clubbing, and those over 50 are ready to dust the fancy outfits off and show them on the dance floor.  More and more event organisers are creating music events with behavioural science in mind, resulting in people from all generations finding an atmosphere that they truly enjoy.

Is daytime clubbing for everyone?

More and more organisers are creating daytime events for a wide range of audiences and a wide range of genres. From daytime disco to a daytime rave, individuals itching to get onto the dance floor can do so often before midday, across the country.  The future of daytime clubbing looks to offer enhanced experiences created with unique technology to provide the perfect atmosphere, where people can re-unite and have a euphoric experience together.
